Hoyo de Monterrey isi datoreaza originea orasului San Juan y Martinez, aflat chiar in inima zonei Vuleta Abajo. Aici se afla plantatia Hoyo de Monterrey, una dintre faimoasele Vegas de Primera. „Hoyo” inseamna chiar „gaura”, iar in acest caz cuvantul descrie pozitia plantatiei de tutun pe malurile fertile ale raului San Juan y Martinez. Jose Gener, un spaniol din Tarragona, a folosit numele pentru prima data in 1865, creand brandul care dainuieste si astazi.
Hoyo de Monterrey owes its origin to the city of San Juan y Martinez, located right in the heart of the Vuleta Abajo area. Here is the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, one of the famous Vegas de Primera. "Hoyo" actually means "hole", and in this case the word describes the position of the tobacco plantation on the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martinez river. Jose Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, used the name for the first time in 1865, creating the brand that continues today.
