Humidor: how to properly store cigars

Guide

Storage of cigars

Humidity, temperature and patience — the secret to a perfect print

An exceptional cigar stored incorrectly becomes a disappointment. The good news: the rules are simple.

Rule 68–72

The target is 68–72% relative humidity and about 18–21°C. Below this humidity, the sheet dries and burns too quickly; over, the cigar becomes hard to pull and can mold.

The right humidor

A cedar wood humidor maintains humidity and adds a subtle fragrance. Calibrate the hygrometer, moisten the humidifying element and check periodically. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and heat sources.

Rotation and patience

Rotate the cigars from time to time for even humidity. And if a cigar has dried out, remoisten it slowly, in stages—hurry cracks the wrapper.
