Whiskey and Cigar: The Art of Pairing

Guide

Whiskey and cigar

How to complete two collecting pleasures

A successful association does not cover but amplifies. Here are some pointers for pairing whiskey with cigars.

The balance of intensities

The golden rule: match the intensity. A mild Connecticut cigar goes with a fine, floral single malt (Speyside). A strong Maduro cigar calls for a robust whiskey with notes of peat or sherry.

Suggestions from Macallan

In our lounge we taste limited editions by the glass, in collaboration with The Macallan. A sherry cask-aged Macallan with hints of dried fruit and wood pairs beautifully with a medium to high intensity cigar.

Rhythm matters

Alternate, don’t rush. A small sip, a slow smoke — let the flavors talk. Room temperature water cleans the palate between innings.
