Cuba, la fel ca si Cohiba, este un nume ce dateaza de pe vremea indienilor Taino, bastinasii insulei Cuba de pe vremea lui Cristofor Columb. Cuvantul era folosit pentru a descrie o tufa cu ardere extrem de rapida pe care bastinasii o foloseau pentru a-si aprinde „”cohibele””.
